Active Support

1. What is Active Support?
People are just human beings no matter the culture, creed, descent or
disability. Living without barriers, especially within the Intellectually
Disabled Community, is continually  being scrutinized in the effort to
enable people to take more control of their lives. One means that has been adopted in developing this pathway for continuous change at Brackenridge is Active Support.  Active Support has become an inherent way of life at Brackenridge.

2. What does Active Support mean to Brackenridge?
It is to enable people with Intellectual Disability to live fulfilling lives through appropriate, sufficient and timely support. Such as it is, Active Support drives our organization into creating opportunities for people to be embraced by society. People need to be accepted for what they have graciously accepted in life, who can become contributing citizens and who are able to experience the joys of community living.

3. Why does Brackenridge need an Active Support Programme?Brackenridge being one of the top ten Service Providers in the country, needs to also provide evidence of what we believe great living is, without barriers; people being involved in their homes, participating and being part of the community and just living ordinary lives. It also helps everyone involved to appreciate that people with disabilities can live great lives with Active Support.

4. What does Active Support mean to you?
We are determined to make new experiences exciting and enjoyable with the principle focus on success and independence. New skills developed and acquired skills honed so that living becomes a pleasure, rewarding and without barriers. One creative step forward shortens the journey towards a realistic future; a vision close to the heart of Brackenridge – Supporting People to Create Great Lives.

Thus our motto has been translated into this catch phrase:

REMOVING BARRIERS, CONNECTING PEOPLE
