1. Why did you decide to work for Brackenridge?
I
started working at Brackenridge  as a support worker in November 2011 as a ‘Summer holiday job’, little did I know that It would turn out to be much more than that. I was lucky to be offered some clerical work one day and I haven’t looked back!

2. Why do you like working at Brackenridge
The best thing about working here is the people I get to work with every day. I love spending time with the unique people we support, who consistently surprise me with their achievements, show me real appreciation, and make me smile. I especially like working with young respite clients who just enjoy having a lot of fun!

He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!- It is the People, the people, the people!

 3. What are your main responsibilities and duties?
My main role is an administrative one. I provide support to management staff as well as homes. I am responsible for creating visual strategies which are visual aids which can help people with intellectual disabilities have more independence and achieve goals. I also look after clients Trust funds by processing their invoices for payment.  I have many other great duties from creating menus to greeting guests –all of which I thoroughly enjoy.

4.What are the most challenging and interesting projects you've worked on at Brackenridge?
The most exciting challenge I have enjoyed is being involved with our Health Action Team which is an exciting new project which aims to improve the overall health of our organisations both for the people who support and our staff. It has been a nice opportunity for me to use my health background and learn at the same time.

5. What has been the most amazing experience or day you have had at
Brackenridge?
My most amazing experience was taking a young woman on a shopping spree to get her self-made over; new clothes, hair cut
and coloured and even her ears pierced. After a day’s shopping she told me on the way home that “today she didn’t feel different anymore”. It was such a special moment for both of us, and I will never forget the important lesson I learnt that day; people with intellectual disabilities just want to live as normal lives as possible –such a simple and reasonable wish that we should always strive to make possible.  (Also I love attending the fun events we have- our summer picnic is always a ball!)
